Hello Doolittle Families,

The information below will be in the Cheshire Herald's Back to School edition.

Hello Doolittle Students! We can’t wait to see you on Monday, August 29th to start our new year.
What have you read this summer? What do you hope to learn this year? Be ready to share the answers with your teacher and friends when you come back.

Hello Doolittle Parents! An email from the school will be sent on Friday, August 12 with important information - please look for it.
  • Monday, August 15th, families can log-on to PowerSchool to get their child’s placement information.
  • Be sure to enter your child’s dismissal plans on PowerSchool before school starts. We want all children to get home safe and sound right from the first day.
  • Monday, August 22 at 6:00 pm in the Doolittle Cafeteria, new parents are invited to a “Parent Orientation Night”. This night will be very similar to the evening held in June in case you missed it.  Mr. Hinckley will go through some of the day-to-day procedures at Doolittle with you and answer questions.
  • Friday, August 26, incoming first grade students are invited to visit their new classrooms and meet with their teachers beginning at 12:00 pm.  Parents will attend a question and answer session in the Cafeteria. Students in grades 2-6 who are NEW to Doolittle can visit anytime between 12:00 and 12:45 this day.
If you have ANY concerns now or in the future, please don’t hesitate to call your child’s teacher, our school counselor (Mrs. Kelly), or Mr. Hinckley at 203-272-3549.

Hello Doolittle Families,

Enjoy your summer! Please make sure that your child spends some time each day doing some reading whether it’s a book, magazine, internet article, etc. Reading over the summer really does make a BIG difference in improving students’ overall reading ability.

Good Luck to our 6th graders going to Dodd!

Teacher Assignments

Hello Doolittle Families,

Next year there will be some teacher assignment changes at Doolittle School.
Mike Juliano will teach 6th grade.
Tracy Ajello will teach 4th grade.
Jennifer Guerin will teach 5th grade.
Mara Weed will teach 2nd grade.
Jennifer Crowley will teach 4th grade.
Laura Robison, our music teacher, has informed us that she will not return to Doolittle next year. We will miss her and wish her all the best.

Last night the Board of Education unanimously voted to appoint Kelly Grillo as the Principal of Norton School! Mrs. Grillo has been such an important part of our school for a number of years. We will miss her and wish her well in her new position. Norton School is very lucky!

A year or so ago, the Town Council approved a study to examine all school facilities in Cheshire. The report is now complete. There are a number of recommendations and options made by Perkins-Eastman, the company who performed the study. You can see the proposals here:

The Chorus and Orchestra Concert on Wednesday was excellent!

Budget Update

Hello Doolittle Families,

The Doolittle PTA needs help. If you are interested in filling a board position or would like to fill a position jointly with a friend - please let us know.
You can email me - rhinckley@cheshire.k12.ct.us
Or Melissa Convertito  - mconvertito@gmail.com

Mr. Detrick sent out a budget update (below) on Friday 5/6/16:

I wanted to update you about the 2016-2017 budget for the Cheshire Public Schools.  Based on the Town Council’s Appropriation for the Cheshire Public Schools, the Board of Education approved the necessary changes and adopted its final budget for 2016/17 to meet the approved funding level of $69,395,510 which is a 1.57% increase over the 2015/16 budget.
The approved budget for the next fiscal year requires reductions to our teaching staff of three positions.  We plan to meet this reduction through anticipated teacher retirements at the elementary level and due to declining enrollment, we will still be able to maintain good class sizes.  While the budget for various accounts were not funded at the level originally requested by the Board of Education, lower medical benefit costs, savings in utility and fuel costs and reductions in carefully selected line items will enable the school district to purchase the additional grade level set of Chromebook laptops for 9th grade students allowing the One-to-One Learning Initiative to continue next year.  In addition, the purchase of replacement band uniforms will be supported in part from our Peck Jones Grant and by allocating replacement equipment funds.  The expansion of world language in the elementary level, however, was not funded. Our World Language Task Force will continue to meet to strategize various implementation options for consideration in next year's budget.
